At St John’s Sawmill, we are proud to be able to process timber grown on the Forestry Directorate’s 7000 acre forestry estate, and to produce a wide range of products to meet the needs of our customers.
A major modernisation programme involving introduction of new integrated sawmilling equipment was completed in 2011. This equipped the mill for the future, with greatly-increased output capacity and improved quality of product.
The Sawmill produces a wide range of home-grown timber products. Much of the local demand for agricultural fencing posts is supplied by the mill. A range of garden fencing is also available. Our joinery shop manufactures a range of gates and heavy-duty garden furniture.
To ensure a long life, timber can be pressure treated with preservative. This process has comparably very good environmental credentials: treated timber is suitable for use in sensitive locations, including watercourses, without risk of contamination.
The Sawmill also produces a range of fuel wood, from large log-lengths of timber, through various sizes of firewood bags. The Sawmill is keenly involved in the government’s initiatives to encourage use of renewable fuel. The Sawmill itself, and the nearby DEFA Headquarters are both heated using woodchip fuel and this resource is being increasingly utilised as more government developments, including new schools and sheltered housing complexes, become equipped to use this renewable locally-sourced fuel resource.
