Meet the Producers -
Allergy Village

For any newcomers, who are you and what do you do?

I run Allergy Village, a local dietary wellness business focusing on education/support and retail products to provide alternatives for those living with dietary needs - gluten free/coeliac/food allergies/plant based.

When did you establish your business?

I launched in July 2020 (right before the apocalypse!).

What inspired you to begin?

I have a young daughter who was born with multiple (7+) life threatening food allergies and needed support on the Island - there was none, so I set up a business to provide for others like us.

How has your business grown since then?

I now have 10 retail and office customers, as well as providing educational talks/events and running a few social media accounts to help our customers/those with dietary needs.

Where are you based and what does that community mean to you?

I work from home in Douglas, and will do until the business grows enough that I can take on premises. Community is the heart of the business, and the reason I started it. Helping those with invisible illnesses is something I love to do.

What does the Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival mean to you?

It is a way to meet with the people who desperately need support on the Island. Last year I spoke with so many Individuals with stories of how inaccessible some place are for those with dietary needs. Some have been struggling in silence for decades.

Which other local producer(s) are you most looking forward to seeing this year?

Other inclusive stands such the vegan bakeries, family type stalls.

What’s on the horizon for your business?

Setting up a 2nd business for the education side of my offering, and ensuring I help support the community by working with the government on some educational initiatives.

What is your signature dish/product?

The most popular product I distribute on the Island is the Creative Nature - "Gnawbles" - they are like vegan maltesers, free of all top 14 allergens/gluten free and plant based! The vegan pretzels go down very well too. All products are reduced sugar, reduced calories, plant based and gluten free as far as possible.
